I do not believe in thinking outside the box because, let’s face it, there is no box. Boxes are receptacles where we deposit things. Boxes are receptacles for deferring for use in a future state.
Sure, we live in big boxes that can protect our families and raise our children. Our cars are boxes on wheels, but our thoughts? I cannot tell you where the well of the thoughts generating these words lie. I cannot tell you where my daughters thoughts sat the moments before my wife gave birth.
Anyone that wants to “think outside” of said box should take the effort to understand the current state: process map it out; bring in your experts that live the process; commit money to improve the process; and live with the consequences.
Otherwise, take that box into the recycling bin. We never thought in it.
Thank you Seth Godin for pushing me over the edge. I will leave something behind.
